The Dishyum movie punch

I saw the movie Dishyum, with my College friends yesterday at Sathyam.
The movie started at 3.30pm and ended at 6.00pm, including a 20 min break.
It was not a special movie to remember but I would like to recall somethings
before it fades away completely.

Jeeva, (the hero in the movie), is a stuntman by profession. He happens to meet
Sandhya, an arts college student by chance, and time plays the cupid between them.
Jeeva, the character is honest, straightforward and is never afraid of anything.
He proposes his love to Sandhya, and whether she accepts it or not,
forms the story (Although, everyone knows how stories like these ends :)

The storyline deals with a practical, common situation. No middle class or upper class girl would want to marry a stuntman, who is at constant danger of harming himself anytime. Also, as a stuntman, Jeeva lacks the grace and demeanor Sandhya expects out of her lover. She is filled with dilemma whether to compromise good behavior, with comforts for a honest guy, without any "extra fittings".

I applaud the film for bringing to light the problems faced by "stuntmen", who
are never recognised for their daredevil stunts. Very true. They deserve a mention
for all the troubles they handle. Its sad that the hero gets credit for what they do. This movie, to an extent, favours their emotions.

There is a character called Amitabh, who is a dwaft, etched for comedy in this movie.
But the comedy is enjoyable only for the callous spectators. Once you start emphatising with him, it is a pain to watch him. But again, in the end the senti dialogues by him, makes audience feel for people like him. Some remorse, but still I feel the comedy could be avoided.

Dishyum is a love story, targetted for couples. The movie was thronged by couples,
and I think they would have enjoyed it. But more than a movie, Dishyum looked like
a onstage drama, revolving around the 2 main characters. Though some scenes are enjoyable, the movie as a whole gets a bit lengthy and boring after sometime. Some people moarned, we know how it ends, lets get there quickly.

Jeeva has done a very good job, and its pleasing to see him on screen. He has done the climax stunt himself, and his hardwork is well seen here. Sandhya is like the-next-door-beauty (though there is no beauty next to my house). Malavika (Sandhya's Mom), has done some over-performance, which is unbearable in this already effusively senti movie.

All in all, I feel, Its OK if you miss this movie.

the end.
