Meaning of Thiruvananthapuram

I never realised that Thiruvananthapuram, meant something in the first place, not to mention its divinity. Thiru Anantha Puram, stands for the abode or city ("Puram") of the sacred snake ("Anantha"), which is respected and worshipped and hence ("Thiru").
Lord Vishnu, as AnanthaPadmanabha, rests on the sacred snake in this place. This temple, built by Trivandrum Maharaja, is probably the biggest Ananthapadmanabha idol, which can be only seen through three doors.

A miniature replica is at Adyar, Sri Padmanabha Swami Thiru Koil, and a statue of the Maharaja who built it is also erected in the lawns. Long ago, this place in Adyar was the Raja's rest place when in Chennai.

I thought of writing about it today since I will be heading towards TVM in a couple of hours, and hopefully visit AnanthaPaddu, tomorrow, if he wishes.

the end.

I love the temple. Last time I was in TVM, for an IV, I skipped a visit to Kovalam to meet with Mr. Ananta Paddu!

The lack of electric light, compensated by the lights from the fire add to the effect.

A mesmerizing place.

@VK: A splendid place indeed VK. The room and mandapam on which God rests was made out of single stone. The idol is very attractive that we can stare at it for ages.
