Ghana sensation Ulaganathan

I was ignorant of the song "Vaalai Meenu..", until last week. Till then I got glimses of a guy in yellow shirt, contrasting coolers, singing in front of a mike. Thought it was one of those low budget songs for low budget films. But suddenly, the frequency of seeing this "yellow guy" increased while browsing through channels, and I paused to listen. What wonder...

Beautiful song, it immediately earlooped me. It was a pretty straightforward song. No fancy lyrics, no expensive settings and no glitzy glamour. Ofcource there was glamour in the form of Malavika, but it was cautiously added, and that is one of the main reasons it became a hit, and that is what seperated this song from the ever-growing line of "item" numbers.

Ulaganathan, the Ghana singer is little known, but this song certainly deserves a mention. The way he presented himself, with a stiff body and only waving the wrist was fun to watch. The dance movements were all stiff and set in a Rural background. The song though about fishes was alluding to the humans present there, and was meaningful.

Again Malavika has done a good job in the cameo, and now has 2 songs in her hit list. This after "Karuppu thaan...", which rocked a couple of years ago, this hit will go a long way helping her career. And what a reception Ulaganathan got. It seems he has 5 more films lined up for him now. Hope he doesn't repeat the same act and make this unique piece, banal.

Ulaganathan tried to imitate MGR in this song I guess, from the attire he wore, and the attitude he presented. I bet there will be more clan songs, which will spoil the elegance of this original. That is the bane of Tamil industry. But till then, this song will rule the Ghana genre.

For a moment, I thought you were profiling some teenage footballing sensation... "Ghana sensation Mickel Essien joins Chelsea from Olympique Lyon"

I have listened to the song a couple of times. It didn't get me rocking though.
