Some ongoing and completed research at MIT in the News

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is known for its R&D and Nobel Prize winners (61 as of now). But I would like to quote few of their research, that caught my eye.

1. Lover's CUP
Two cups, interlinked through Wi-Fi communicate the usage of one to another, however far they are. The two cups can even be at opposite ends of the globe, but still communicate with each other, conveying signals through LEDs.

2. Neurosurgery restores eyesight to blind rats
This is a very important breakthrough in medical field. On injecting some neuroparticles, it formed a scaffold like arrangement around the damaged nerves, thus allowing it to recuperate. This can be possibly used on humans in 5 years time to cure brain damages, spinal cord problems and vision related issues.

3. MIT is working on $100 PC project, due later this year.
For the benefit of economically backward countries, and to make PC accessible to them, especially students and childen, MIT is trying to build a $100 laptop. This laptop might have the config of 500Mhz, 1GB and will run on open source.
Bill Gates, has mocked this project as unviable, and this has already triggered great expectations.
